Tom the vet sitting down on the job....
Baby badger came in this morning from bishops story ford having been found at the side of a road. He seems in good condition so we are concerned as to why such a youngster was out of the sett and alone so will be making some enquiries when we know the exact location he was picked up from .

So now it's the beginning of the bird nesting season. Nests are legally protected from disturbance but we know folk will start chopping down trees, bushes and doing roof repairs. This is also the time when birds are at most risk from cat predation with tragic consequences when the victim has young to rear. We now have available a tried and tested collar for cats which can help reduce the numbers they catch if they are let out.
You can purchase the collar from us for only £8.50 , if you do so ... See more

Another injured fox with terrible mange admitted at our hospital. But there was something very different about this little patient. Despite being fully grown it clearly had a form of dwarfism . It is an extremely rare condition, wild animals with deformities don't normally survive yet somehow this chap had made it through his first year.

Although fox cub season has commenced we have had many other interesting patients recently too. A very rare stone curlew that was badly injured, stranded great crested grebe, a black headed gull that required feather splicing , an injured king fisher and a poorly cockatoo were just a few of the birds we have helped.

Many orphan Fox Cubs have arrived this week , they are hard work to rear and always thrive better with their mums .Sadly these babies were handed into a veterinary surgery who thought they were puppies. The finders details were not taken so we could not attempt to return them the the vixen who may develop mastitis now she has no cubs to feed.

An expectant mum was recently spotted at the side of the road dazed and confused in Hornchurch. An ultrasound examination showed her cubs were not yet quite ready to be be born so we had time to get her treated and released before they were born in captivity. The vixen responded well and was released near to where she was found . Hopefully she returned to her den and mate.

We hope all you mums out there had a lovely Mother's Day. One mummy had the best present ever, her babies returned to her. Removed by men demolishing an old factory that was their family home, the 5 cubs were handed over to an rspca inspector. When he brought them to us we explained what devoted parents foxes are and that they should be put back for the vixen to find. We put the youngsters in a box with a blanket, hot water bottle and some food for their mum and put a note on the box in case ... See more
