Shop Online and Raise Money!

Have you heard about easyfundraising yet? It’s the easiest way to help raise money for South Essex Wildlife Hospital! If you already shop online with retailers such as Amazon, M&S, Argos, John Lewis, Comet, Vodafone, eBay, Boden and Play.com, then we need you to sign up for free to raise money while you shop!

So how does it work?

You shop directly with the retailer as you would normally, but if you sign up to http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/sewh for free and use the links on the easyfundraising site to take you to the retailer, then a percentage of whatever you spend comes directly to us at no extra cost to yourself.

How much can you raise?

Spend £100 with M&S online or Amazon and you raise £2.50 for us. £100 with WH Smith puts £2.00 in our pocket and so on. There’s over 2,000 retailers on their site, and some of the donations can be as much as 15% of your purchase.

Save money too!

easyfundraising is FREE to use plus you’ll get access to hundreds of exclusive discounts and voucher codes, so not only will you be helping us, you’ll be saving money yourself.

We’ve just started with easyfundraising and haven’t raised anything yet, so we need your help to keep donations coming in. Sign up at http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/sewh and start making a difference…simply by shopping.

Thanks!

Royal Mail must instruct their postmen ( and enforce their instructions) not to throw the elastic bands away on the street where hedgehogs and other wildlife get tangled up and injured by them, causing unnecessary loss of many lives. Or even better, to replace them with harmless, wildlife-friendly alternatives.

As usual we have an enormous number of hedgehogs for overwintering this year. We have over 200 hedgehogs in the hospital, with more streaming in daily. The bad weather started even earlier than usual this year and continues to be very bad and getting worse, with sub zero temperatures, deep snow and hard frosts.
Hedgehogs that are too small to hibernate need to be remain inside, in heated pens and kept awake all winter as they do not have the body fats to sustain them through the colder months. All of our hedgehogs require an intensive course of treatment for lungworm and other parasites, which if left untreated would kill many hedgehogs.

It costs £95.00 to overwinter just one little hedgehog, so the extended winter season has already placed and will continue to place a massive burden on our very limited funds.( Just the heating bills alone for their pens are extremely high. Last year the electric bill for the winter quarter was more than £10,000

A hedgehog needs to weigh at least 600 grams to be able to survive hibernation. If you find anything under this weight ( about the size of a large grapefruit or a melon) or any hedgehog out in daylight, it needs urgent help. Please pick it up, pop it in a box and contact us urgently for our advice and help.

Please can you help?

Well done to Jacqui who raised a fabulous £395 for South Essex Wildlife Hospital by running a spectacular 26.2 miles at Brighton and Hove earlier this year. What a fantastic achievement personally for Jacqui, and in fact all of those who ran at the event, but also in her generosity to raise these funds for our new wildlife hospital.

We have recently moved into the new premises but are still raising funds to complete the out buildings where most of the animals will be housed. Thanks Jacqui, the hedgehogs are especially thankful for all your hard work!

Love all at SEWH xxx

Sitting on the table surrounded by crackers at christmas was not a fate this turkey was willing to accept. Instead he took the brave and daring route to escape. Unfortunately he did not come out of this unscathed. He came to our hospital with a serious gaping wound on his side. With the care and attention from our volunteers, he soon made a speedy recovery. He can currently be seen strutting around the paddock area, showing off his new plush feathers to the other residents. He has most recently taken to defending this territory even against the volunteers trying to feed him! That’s gratitude for you…..
